Carhartt’s workwear dedicated brand Carhartt WIP and Australian Streetwear label P.A.M. teamed up early this summer to launch their “Radio Club” capsule collection. Here is my recap of the collaboration that draws its inspiration from communication long before the internet and Instagram.
My name is @oscarlance and I was blessed to have a couple of connections with the brand and Ibiza Carhartt store. The store is one of my favourites, I recommend everyone to check it out when visiting the white isle. You’ll be able to find many limited products still in stock, which is a blessing for every Carhartt fan. I was lucky enough to get my hands on the limited Radio Club Collaboration as well as on the Converse x Carhartt collaboration. I have seen different Carhartt collaboration over the years but the Radio Club collection is by far one of my most cherished.
I feel the collaboration perfectly resembles both brands, while the quality and feel of the items is very much on point. My favourite items are the long sleeve shirts as they are incredibly comfortable and can be easily combined with a range of outfits, especially with jeans and sneakers. The print designs boast simplicity and touch of color, which goes along well with the trends of summer ’17 while remaining in unique style.
In terms of the background of the collection, Carhartt and P.A.M drew their inspiration from early communication over airwaves: the shortwave radio. Users communicated publicly with private names such as “lady T-Bone” or “little snake” and exchanged these on cards that featured amateur graphics such as caricatures, cartoons, slogans and jokes. The collection resembles Carhartt’s and P.A.M.’s own “Radio Club” graphics and cards inspired by this movement.
